Twelve new lilacs for Church Walk

Twelve young lilacs were planted along Church Walk last Saturday by volunteers and pupils from Church Walk Primary School, replacing trees lost in the drought of 2022 and two that had to be taken out when the wall by the almshouses was rebuilt.

Ten are the common lilac, grown from suckers of the old trees in the churchyard so that they are the same stock. Two are white, to match the pair by the lych gate that have been white for as long as anyone remembers.

The trees were paid for by the Lilac Fund, which receives the profit from the cordial stall. The parish council has agreed to water them through their first two summers.
