Getting here and parking
The museum is on Sheep Street, two minutes’ walk north of the Market Square. For satellite navigation use VG4 1DS, which brings you to the museum door; the nearest car park is fifty metres further up Sheep Street.

By train
Vengerberg station is on the branch line, with trains about every hour from Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sundays. Change at the junction for main-line services. The station is unstaffed; there is a ticket machine on the platform.
From the station it is a twelve-minute walk to the museum, downhill along Station Road and into Sheep Street (about 900 metres). The pavement is level and step-free all the way. Taxis do not wait at the station, but the numbers are on the board by the exit.
By bus
Buses to the county town and the villages along the valley stop on High Street, by the Market Square (stop C, westbound, and stop D, eastbound). The 41 runs every half hour from Monday to Saturday daytime and hourly in the evenings and on Sundays. Bus times are at the visitor information point.
By car
Vengerberg is signed from the bypass. From either end, follow the brown signs for the museum, which bring you in along Station Road and down Sheep Street. Please do not follow sat-nav directions down Bridge Street on a Thursday, when the Market Square is closed to traffic until 16.00.
Parking
| Car park | Spaces | Charges |

The car parks are run by the district council, not by the Trust. Charges may change; the machines take cards and coins. There are two electric vehicle charging points in the Riverside car park.
Coaches
Coaches can set down and pick up on Station Road, opposite the top of Sheep Street, and park in the coach bays in the Riverside car park. Please let us know when a coach group is coming so that a volunteer can meet you.
By bicycle
There are cycle stands outside the museum on Sheep Street and in the Market Square. The Pontar Way along the river is a footpath, and cycling on it is not allowed between the weir and the Riverside car park.
By boat
There are visitor moorings at the Town Quay, on Water Lane, with a 48-hour limit and no charge. There are no water or electricity points at the quay. The river is navigable for small craft from the quay downstream; the weir above the Town Mill cannot be passed. The visitor information point keeps the river levels and the number for the harbour master downstream.
On foot
The Pontar Way follows the river through the town. Footpaths lead up from the churchyard to Beacon Hill; see Beacon Hill and the Old Road.
